Guangdong will experience widespread heavy rainfall in the coming days, with downpours forecast across much of the province from August 3 to 5.
The provincial meteorological service states that thunderstorms will be accompanied by brief bursts of strong winds of up to force 7-8. Southern coastal counties are expected to encounter heavy to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing extremely heavy downpours. The northern areas of the Pearl River Delta and parts of northern Guangdong will also see sustained heavy rainfall.
From August 3 to 4, torrential rain is expected for eastern coastal counties and the east side of the Pearl River Estuary, with extreme rainfall in some regions. Central and northern parts of the delta, southern areas of northern Guangdong, and western Guangdong will experience heavy to very heavy rain. Elsewhere, showers and scattered storms are likely. Temperatures will range from 28-32°C, with the Leizhou Peninsula slightly warmer at 33-35°C.
On August 5, central and northern areas of the Pearl River Delta, as well as Shaoguan, Qingyuan, western Guangdong, and both sides of the Pearl River Estuary, will continue to experience heavy to torrential rain. Other regions will face scattered showers or storms. Temperatures will remain around 29-32°C across most of the province.
In Guangzhou, the city will be mostly cloudy with heavy to torrential rain:
August 3: 25-31°C
August 4: 25-29°C
August 5: 26-30°C
Authorities warn of potential flooding and urge residents to prepare for stormy conditions as August begins.
